Why Kumkum is used instead Saffron? Why Hindu women apply kumkum in forehead.. How do we lost these reasons from our mind? Lets introspect...

Why Kumkum is used instead Saffron?
Why Hindu women used to take bath using turmeric, and apply kumkum in forehead?

The word "kumkum" is actually a sanskrit word
Actually, it refers the 'Saffron powder', but not the kumkum we use

Vedic Sastra, actually recommend pooja to vedic gods using Saffron (kumkum) powder or it's flower.

Whether we do pooja for Maha-kali, or Sri Krishna, it recommends pooja using Saffron (kumkum).

One day, Kanchi Maha Periyavar Sri Chandrasekara Swamigal (lineage of Adi Sankara Peetam), asked his devotees about this topic...
"Vedic Sastra recommends pooja using Saffron (kumkum).
We can't buy Saffron as it is too costly.
But, any reason why we are using red kumkum instead of actual saffron (kumkum)?", paramacharya asked.

The devotees gathered at that time, remained silent.
Some of them might knew the answer. But everyone preferred to stay silent to listen to his answer which would be very interesting.

Maha Periyavar himself answered...
"As per Vaidya Sastra (Ayurveda), saffron have medical benefits to 'cure skin diseases' and also helps to 'reduce body heat'.
Turmeric also have similar benefits alike Saffron.

In our Vedic Sastra, for every guidelines suggested, there exist alternate guidelines (प्रथिनिति विचारम) as well.
That means, if suggested material is not available, vedic sastra allows nearest equivalent alternate material.

By that alternate guidelines (प्रथिनिति विचारम), it is allowed to use turmeric powder in place of Saffron (kumkum).
Some people used to mix saffron in boiled milk with sugar and drink daily for health.
Saffron is too costly to buy.
So, To get the same benefit, Most people use turmeric powder in boiled milk with sugar and drink daily for health.

Similarly,
While doing pooja on MahaKali, Mahalakshmi, Ganesh, Sri Krishna or any Vedic Gods, if saffron is not affordable, it was recommended to use Turmeric powder as alternate.
To make turmeric look alike Saffron (kumkum), we add some red color and give it a name 'kumkum'.

The kumkum which we are using to do pooja on Devi TripuraSundari @ kanchipuram is the red turmeric powder, which is an accepted vedic practice.

Thus Sri Kanchi Maha Periyavar explained the meaning and purpose of kumkum.

Hindu women, those days protected their skin using turmeric bath.
Having Saffron (Kumkum) in forehead was a practice when our country was the richest, before foreign conquest.
Slowly, we started using Red Turmeric as Kumkum.

It's very sad to see Hindu woman despite medical benefits behind, they avoid kumkum
It's very sad to see some use chemical stickers and some walk with nothing in forehaed like other religion community.
Even today, foreigners believe and portray "a hindu women with a kumkum".
But it's very sad that, Hindu woman lost their pride of these traditions which are scientific and traditional.

As Indians, we should not forget what happened From 947AD till 1947AD
Our country was looted by foreign religious invaders for 1000 continuous years at supreme power.

Temples were looted, destroyed and mosque were built over that

Millions of Vedic Brahmins were massacred in these 1000 years, as most of them stayed in and around temples.

They became the 1st Targets.
This land which had brahmins who had learnt 1 veda, 2 veda (dwevedi),3 veda (trivedi), 4 veda (chaturvedi) are no more.

Now a days their families still hold these surnames but lost vedic studies
Today almost 97% of brahmin families have became namesake brahmins holding these pride surnames.

India not just had lost the temples, wealth, but the knowledge of Veda and it's reasons.
When someone reads Mahabaharat today and finds Karna took Naga Astra (a missile which can spread poison) by chanting vedic mantra, no one knows today, what mantra he recited and what procedure he used.

In 1000 years, when vedic brahmins got killed, and vedic scriptures burnt and temples destroyed, we lost all treasures...

We as People of this land, should at least visualize the pain that forefathers in our family had gone thru.

Everyone of us were rich those days.
People in this land never had a reason to beg foreigners those days.
The whole Bharat Land was self-sufficient and lived in their home town with family together.

Imagine the pride we had, those days.
We lost everything in this 1000 years..

Most importantly, Today, we don't even know many Hindu Dharma and Rituals and practice because of the lost we incur due to those 1000 years of invasion.
Today, Most of us, don't even know why woman had kumkum on their forehead.

How shamefully we were driven by foreign invaders.
Hindus must introspect.

Most of the times, Kshatriyas (kings) had to give up their lives, when these foreign invaders tried to attack civilians and temples directly instead fighting with them.
Mohammed Gajini 17 times he tried to destroy and loot golden somnath temple only and killed many civilians.
The people in Saurashtra had no choice than to escape.
They migrated till Tamilnadu to save their lives.
How sad we suffered.. !! Alas !!

When Kshatriya fall down, Brahmins became the poorest of all, as kings were the saviors of their basic needs.
When British around 1800AD smelled the downfall of Islamic rulers, they used their power to finish islam rulers and took over the control of entire India (including today pakistan, bangladesh).

Hindus who got converted into Islam thru Rape, and fear of sword from 947AD till 1800AD also now left alone like beggars, along with existing brave hindus.

Bharat land at that time was covered with 90% True hindus and 10% converts to Islam
All people during that became extreme poor. The once Richest Nation in the earth where columbus, vascodagama, megasthanese tried to visit India has now became extreme poorest Nation because of loot and destroy of education and killing of vedic brahmins.

The left alone wealth including kohinoor diamond was also taken to Britain.

Christianity was promoted in full swing in all coastal sides.
Churches were built.

On poor hindus, money was spent to make them christians, thereby to make entire country a Christian Nation to gain civilians support.
British Christian absolutely aware that some of the Hindus who had been living as muslims from 947AD were the hard targets and were very hard to get converted to Christianity as Islam was created with a disbelief in Christ as God.

So, at one side british christian rulers while converting some hindus to Christianity and some as psuedu secular hindus
they noticed that muslims have become major threat to create civil disturbance.

Instead trying to convert those Hindu muslims to Christianity, they tried to attack them with force
Mughal dynasty was uprooted from Delhi.
All Deccan Sultanate's were decimated.
Finally,
they uprooted Tipu Sultan and shot all his sons and make an end for Islamic Rule which dominated our land for 1000 years with low tax on hindu those converted to Muslim and heavy tax on brave Hindus.

Poor Hindus of some section started to get converted to Christianity.
More than Christian belief and it's god, shaming Hindu Vedic Gods, shaming Vedic Believes like having kumkum in forehead was criticized.

As brahmins were so poor those days and everyone in general being poor, no one had time to check these facts.
More than Dharma, Food and survival became a major issue for civilians.

Christian believers punished Galileo when he predicted that Earth is round, as Christianity believed that "Earth is Flat" during that time as per old testament.
They smartly hided their own facts..
But Shamed all Hindu customs and gods, to create hatred mindset on Hindu Dharma.

On other side, money was given for those who accepted Christianity.
Being poor and no time to retrospect the truth and value we possessed, conversion to Christianity started to flourish..

Those with western mindset, those who don't fight with them were respected by british christian rulers.

Those who don't have western mindset and appeasement to Christian rulers were hanged and jailed.

But 90% of Indians were below poverty that time.
So food and life became very important for many.

For administration, they enticed poor brahmins to study english
With extreme poverty, few Brahmins started to work as clerk, teacher, advocate from 1850s

Since they don't fight, British trusted brahmin community for their admin work.

Due to this, vedic brahmin families slowly got deviated and started to leave vedic studies and took western studies which can give them jobs to live

Bhagat Singh was hanged,
Va Vu Chidambaram pillai was jailed more than a decade and tortured who was a richest businessman (vaishya) and purchased ship on his own to do his business without paying tax to christian rulers,
Brahmins like Mangal Pandey, Chandrasekhar asad protested the british conquest,
Bharathi, the greatest poet and freedom fighter, died as poor like an orphan,
Vanchinathan killed himself after shooting a district collector
and many tried their best to get rid of this foreign religious rulers.

British shamed other communities as slaves.
They shamed them, tortured them.

The people who were considered as Sudra (employee category people) were the most affected from 947AD.
They became helpless.
British Christians treated them as slaves and gave jobs to few of them as policemen to attack their own Freedom fighters.
Due to extreme poverty, not just Sudra (employee category people), even brahmin community joined Army and ended up attacking their own people.

Mangal Pandey, a brahmin joined British Army himself..
Later revolted in 1857 which started the India Independence movement with british.

Our Land was filled with confusion.
Some Brahmins became a slave of western mindsets
Some became freedom fighters and lost their lives.

Some Vaishya (business) became a slave of western mindsets
Some became freedom fighters and lost their wealth.

Some Sudra (employee) became a slave of western mindsets and became servant and policemen.
Some became freedom fighters and lost their lives.

By the time, British Christians took over the control of this entire land, almost all existing kings were no longer kshatriya (protector)..
most of them surrendered their land and accepted royalty from them.

Some kings who are real kshatriya (protector) like marudhu pandiya, veera pandiya all were captured and hanged in public by christian british rulers.

Hindus who were living as muslim civilians at core hated the british rule.
Yet some poor muslims took jobs for their earnings.
At 1857AD, when british rulers asked to bite the bullet which is coated with pig's meat, muslim civilians revolted.

When muslims and hindus revolted together, entire British govt faced a civil disturbance and huge life threat as many were working in british army as well.

Rest is history...

By 1947, after 2 consecutive world wars (thanks to hitler) Britain got hit badly. Reviving Economy at Britain became prime focus for them.

Finally they decided to leave this poorest country India, in the hands of British mindset and pseudo secular leader Nehru (Brahmin) who had his studies in British soil and with no Vedic background instead holding the prefix "Pandit".

It's time for Hindus now to introspect Hindu Dharma. Ladies must start apply Kumkum and understand the Vedic Reasons and Medicinal (Ayurveda) reasons.

What is the meaning of Purush (man)? Who is purusha? Who is stri? Who is supreme god?

Who is SUPREME GOD?
HINDUS Worship multiple GODS.. Who is that Only Purusha (Man) and SUPREME?
What Veda Says?

In Sanathana Dharma (Hindu),
Veda says Parabrahma(god) is the Purusha(Man) by saying "sahasra seersha purusha:"

By just uttering word "Purusha" (man), Veda did not reveal Who is that Parabrahma?
Is that Parabrahma refers Lord Brahma? Lord Vishnu?  Lord Vinayaka?  Lord Rudra?

By Saying "sahasra seersha purusha:", Veda says,
"That Purusha (man) who is the creator of this entire universe and also seen in different forms as everything we see, is the Parabrahma (GOD)"

Veda just not Utter this Word "Purusha" in "sahasra seersha purusha:" alone.
In Many places, If you see Vedic Mantra, it uses this Word "Purusha" without revealing who is that Purusha as Parabrahma.

In Other place,
Veda says "Purushayam purush meekshathey" which means
"That Purusha reside inside every being. With Deep Meditation try to Look at him who is staying inside you.  That purusha is the paramathma"

In Other place,
Veda says "Poorvamevaa ihaa samithi thath purushashya purushathvam" which means
"That Purusha alone was there even before all creations. That purusha is the only one who was not created by other. That purusha is the paramathma"

By Just uttering the word "Purusha" referring "Parabrahma" and not referring who is he?
the devotee of Rudra used this word "Purusha", "Eswara", "Parabrahma" for Lord Shiva because of their love and affection.
Similarly, Devotee of Other gods like Indra, Vinayaka, Agni, Surya used this word "Purusha", "Eswara", "Parabrahma" for their God because of their love and affection.

Sometimes, when people like ravana able to conquer the world he was referred as "ravaneswara"

As Veda says "Purushayam purush meekshathey" which means
"That Purusha (man) reside inside every being. With Deep Meditation try to Look at him who is staying inside you.  That purusha is the paramathma".
Since that Purusha (Parabrahma) resides in every being, worshiping any of these devata as Purusha is not wrong as well, as that purusha resides inside every being.

Devotees of each Devata says "Since Veda does not refer who is that Purusha, why can't we use that Title of Purusha to our God? Why can't we say our God is Supreme (Paramathma)?

But In reality, If a learned scholar look at what Veda says, and tries to identify who is that Purusha that veda is referring to, that learned scholar will find the answer for that

When speaking about that Purusha, Veda at one place says
" ह्रीश्च॑ ते ल॒क्ष्मीश्च॒ पत्न्यौ॓"
i.e.,  "hreeshchcham they lakshmeemcha pathnyow"

By Uttering this word, Veda says "That Purusha's wife name is Lakshmi"
Once Veda says That Paramathma's Wife is Lakshmi,
all other demi-gods take a step back as they are not Lakshmi's husband that Veda refers.
By this Vedic Word "ह्रीश्च॑ ते ल॒क्ष्मीश्च॒ पत्न्यौ॓",  Veda says "That Purusha, That Parabrahma is the Lord Vishnu whose wife is Lakshmi"

Veda also says "sa eka purusha:" that means,
"There is only one Man (Purusha)".
By saying this, Veda says, rest of all creations including his 1st creation Brahma till small living beings in earth are considered as "Female" in front of this Purusha (man).

Lord Vishnu is the Only Man. He is the Only Purusha. He is the Parabrahma.

The Marriage of Mahalakshmi - proved this above statement when we hear the story of her Marriage.

When Lord Vishnu told Devas to Grind the Milky Ocean (Ksheerapthi) and take up the Amrita to stay healthy and live long,
Deva along with Asura started Grinding the Ocean with a Mountain.

At first, came the poison which Lord Shiva appeared and drank the poison and became "NeelaKanda" (Blue Throat).
Lord Shiva also showed that "Even if he drank Poison, He remains eternal and one and the same of Lord Vishnu".

Then, came
"Iravat, an Elephant",
"Kamadenu, a Cow",
"Karpaka Vruksham",
"Pushpaka Vimanam",
"Paari Jaatham"
etc.,
Whatever appeared on the ocean which are divine, are shared between Asura and Devas.

Then appeared a Divine Goddess "Sri MahaLakshmi" holding a Lotus Flower at her hand from the Ocean.

Devas and Asuras seeing her appearance from the Ocean, thought she will marry anyone them and stood in Queue.

Mahalakshmi noticed Lord Vishnu standing aside and far away from this crowd with no interest to compete with Deva and Asura.

After Seeing Lord Vishnu, Mahalakshmi felt immediately that he is her Husband.
All Deva and Asura looked like a woman in front of Mahalakshmi.
Without any Hesitation and Fear, amidst of Deva and Asura, Mahalakshmi walked towards Lord Vishnu and placed the Lotus Garland around his Neck and married Lord Vishnu.

Before him, everyone else is Female. To reflect this context, Veda Says as "sa eka purusha:" (There is only 1 Man).  He is Lord Vishnu.

Any Men who come in front of Lord Vishnu will look like a Woman, because of his purusha (men) qualities.

Let us analyze,
Why woman is referred little Low compared to Men?

We should not look and understand the difference of Woman and Men in normal way and appearance.  It talks about masculine and feminine quality and has deeper meaning.
Veda is not saying the man in human, animal.
It talks vishnu is the only man. It means it says rest are all women.
So it is not about a comparison in appearance that we talk about man and woman in human.

In this earth,
a girl from birth is protected and taken care by someone else.
From birth,
she is protected by their parents or someone very close to them.
After marriage,
she is protected and taken care by her husband.
Then,
she is protected by her children.
Since they ensure protection, she abides by their guidance at every instance.

Before marriage she accepts advice from her parents.
Then she accepts her husband, then later she accepts her children.

In a complete uncivilized country where law is misused and danger prevails,
a men can survive those tough challenges, but woman will not live safe.

A woman need protection from her own family.
A woman expects good behaviour from man in society to mingle with society,
A Woman require tough laws from government and culture to respect individual from the people.
A Woman depends on protection from Guards to survive.
Hence women is considered as "dependent".
But men are considered as "guards" to provide safety and protection for woman.

But again,
Even In a uncivilized country where law is misused,
a men can survive without any expectation from others and face those tough challenges.

With the same context, Veda says, "there is only purusha (men) called Vishnu, who existed even before all creations, and he is not created by anyone else".

Why veda, says "only Vishnu is the Purusha?
What qualities defines Masculine according to Veda?
Why even other DemiGods are considered as feminine in front of him?

Let us see!!

Veda says, "the reason why vishnu is the only purusha (man) is because of his "nithya swaathanthriyam"

"nithya swaathanthriyam" means, "who never have to obey to anyone or anytime".

Veda says,
"the Purusha who never need to obey anyone or anytime and free to take his own decision is the para brahma called Vishnu, whose wife is lakshmi.

Even brahma, Indra had to go for his mercy at tough times.
He is termed as only purusha (men) because, everyone else will look for support on someone or some stage of their life.

Why we all are not considered as man in front of vishnu?
We (both men and women) all are
Dependent to the nation,
Dependent to our own body which is the reason why we can't even ignore hunger and have to work for food.
Dependent to senses.
Dependent to our actions which will bring result (good or bad based on action)
Dependent to time and age which is the reason why as we get old we became dependent to others
Dependent to a god
Dependent to nature.
Dependent to other people in the name of boss, leader, manager, coworker etc
Dependent to family
Dependent to husband if she is Wife.
Dependent to wife if he is husband.
Dependent to children as parents
Dependent to nation ruler
Thus,
everyone at one stage of life, we depend on some people or sometime.

Veda asks "how can a person who is dependent to time, nature, people can be said as purusha?"

This dependencies are not qualities of the Purusha (man) which is referred in Veda.
Thus,
only Vishnu is the Purusha who is not dependent to anyone, Not dependent to time, Not dependent to nature, Not dependent for his action to get result.
He himself decides his result on his own command.
He is Not dependent to his senses
He is Not dependent to his mind
He is Not dependent to any god as none exist above him.

Thus, because he is independent and don't depend on anyone or anytime,
veda says "that husband of lakshmi is the only Purusha who need to be worshipped by everyone to lead happy life during life time and after life to reach moksha".

Veda says, "knowing the truth of who is purusha, start doing bhakti (devotion) to this great purusha with love and affection who created you as well.

By doing true bhakti, if a person gets the grace and blessing of Vishnu (parabrahma), then even if the world falls down against that person, no one can do anything."
Vishnu came to this earth in vibhava avatar like narasimha, rama, krishna etc for certain purpose.
Worshipping these forms are also worshipping that purusha in his vibhava form.
In his vibhava avatar as Shri Krishna,
he speaks to arjuna the great war warrior at the battle field in a lengthy conversation.

This speech between krishna and arjuna are considered "the essence of veda" and explains "what that purusha (man) who is the parabrahma expects from all of us".

This conversation is not referred as "Krishna's speech" but termed as "Bhagavad gita".
The term bhagavad refers bhagavan (god).
That defines the divinity of this speech.

It is the words of that purusha who came as Shri Krishna and explained what he expects from us to attain moksha (eternal heaven called vaikunda)

When vyasa starts writing story of that shri krishna, he starts from that parabrahma who himself came to ksheeraapthi as vishnu and came as vibhava avatar in this world.
After writing the complete story of shri krishna he named the book as Bhagavatham, which again says it is not an ordinary human story, but the story of that bhagavan (god) who is the only purusha to be worshipped by everyone.

Understanding Veda directly is extremely tough. Without guidance it is hard to know the essence of truth.
That parabrahma came himself as Shri Krishna and gave us the bhagavad gita which can be read and understood and can be followed.

If a person born as human irrespective of color and nation, everyone must read bhagavad gita once and atleast try to follow 1 advice which krishna says thru out his/her lifetime with no excuses.

This assures happy life in this life and assures moksha after life as well.

While speaking to arjuna, Shri Krishna himself talks about this word "purusha" in few places.

In chapter 15, 17th sloka he says to arjuna,
Uththama purushas thvanya:
Paramaath yeth yudhaa hrutha: !
Yo logathrayam aavishya
Vibarththavyaya eshwara: !!

Shri Krishna says,
"Dear Arjuna, veda says that purusha is not dependent on this nature or living things you see.
That purusha who is eternal and not created by someone, have the capacity to control and guide both these nature and living beings on his command.
That purusha is none other than me who came as vibhava avatar in this earth.
Understand that i am that purushothaman (man) who is independent and controlling the Nature and living on my command."

Let all of us worship, that purusha who is referred as "Husband of lakshmi".
Let us all worship, Vishnu with folded hands with love and affection to protect us and give us happy life.
Let us celebrate the divine voice of shri krishna and read bhagavad gita.
Let us be devoted to that purusha named shri krishna, shri rama, shri narasimha.
